Masihiyawa Community

Our activities are currently focused on empowering the Masihiyawa Community in Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States in northwestern Nigeria through the award of scholarships for study in tertiary institutions and provision of mentorship to promising youth. The Masihiyawa are a marginalised Christian minority in the Hausa and Fulani speaking parts of northern Nigeria.

Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States

Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States lie within the Sahelian belt in sub-Saharan Africa and are blessed with abundant solid mineral and agricultural resources. However, the area has, over the past decade, suffered recurring security challenges, exacerbated by deterioration in the quality and productivity of agricultural land. The three States are among the most deprived in Nigeria, having some of the highest incidence of deprivation as measured by the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), with two of the States having the lowest scores in human development index (HDI) – which is based on three basic dimensions of human development: life expectancy, access to education and standard of living.
